Why we oppose a zoning change for LAGO

  1. The density obtained in a 2020 building permit was obtained for a hotel. Residential zoning would have allowed only a fraction of the density authorized for this so-called hotel project.
  2. We opposed the density of this project from the start as the 14 rooms of the old hotel became 72 units at LAGO, which represents an increase of over 500%.
  3. Despite the hotel zoning, LAGO’s architect designed a residential complex and the developer also marketed it as a residential complex.
  4. Authorizing a zoning change that would benefit the developer would reward his false statements that led to obtaining the building permit in 2020.
  5. We do not believe that LAGO and the old Club Tremblant buildings are the same; the Ville could and perhaps should treat their zoning and occupancy differently.

What about safety? Owners at LAGO lac Tremblant have moved into the building even though it does not meet the fire safety standards of the provincial building code. This exposes the Ville and taxpayers to significant financial liability in the event of a fire. The Ville should immediately ensure that the building is not occupied; unit owners will be able to return once the developer has resolved major fire safety issues with the Régie du bâtiment du Québec.
