Les Amis recently obtained, through an access to information request, documents from the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) concerning the LAGO project. The documents confirm that the development is still not compliant. Since October 3, 2023, the project has failed to correct serious fire safety deficiencies, and the case remains active with the RBQ.
Furthermore, the project has been under the protection of the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) since June 2025, with a debt burden of $11.9 million.
Our point of view: This exposes the Ville and taxpayers to significant financial liability in the event of a fire. The Ville should immediately ensure that LAGO building “2” is unoccupied. Once the developer resolves the fire safety issues with the RBQ, residents can move back in.
