Asphalt update (Lac Mercier)

On May 9 at 7 p.m., the MRC des Laurentides will hold an information session at l’Hôtel de ville de La Conception. The meeting concerns the paving of the P’tit train du Nord linear park on the edge of Lac Mercier.

Les Amis de Mont-Tremblant support the solid and reasonable position of l’Association du lac Mercier:

Many North American cities have found alternatives to asphalt near lakes; we encourage the MRC to follow this example. Here’s why it’s important:

“One of the most significant environmental problems associated with asphalt pavements is the leaching of contaminants into underlying soil layers and underground aquifers. This concern always exists until the end of the life of the asphalt pavements.” — Water Research, Volume 219.
